What's the first session like?

It's important to go at a pace you're comfortable with, so we can tread carefully or dive right in. The first session generally consists of a discussion around your reasons for therapy, then I will discuss the process and what your expectations are. We will also discuss some background information, including confidentiality and data protection.

Are sessions confidential?

Yes- however, some information may need to be disclosed if there is a risk to you or others.

Is my information ever shared with others?

Because therapists are committed to your privacy, providing personal information is uncommon, however there may be times when information is disclosed, such as legal reasons or if you or someone else is in danger.

How long is each session?

Session are for 50 minutes once a week.

How long is a course of therapy?

Therapy can be Short term or long term, it is important to have  Consistency of sessions as it plays a crucial role in the effectiveness of the therapeutic process

Can I end my therapy?

Yes, you have the right to end therapy at any time. If you feel that you have reached a point where you no longer need therapy or if you believe that it's not benefiting you, it's important to communicate this with your therapist

How Do Online Therapy Sessions Work?

A client communicates with their therapist through video, audio, live chat, or a combination of these contact methods during online therapy sessions. Once connected, the counselling session is performed in the same manner as if it were conducted in person.

Can I have someone with me in my sessions?

Unfortunately not. Therapy is private and a chance for you to be open and share without worrying about judgement or if someone hearing. 

Why am I asked for my GP's details?

Therapists ask for your doctor's contact information in the uncommon case that you have  a medical emergency while in treatment. In the event of a psychological or emotional emergency,  your therapist will ask for your consent to contact your primary care physician for your safety and/or  well-being. 

 
Can I contact my counselor when I am in crisis?

Your therapist will only be available at the time of your scheduled meeting. In the event of  an emergency, other options are available. If required, contact your doctor, the Samaritans  (116 123, www.samaritans.org), or emergency services.
